Ensuring a maximum safety-level of building elements is one of Reynaers’ top priorities. To be able to closely follow-up all testing activities, Reynaers created a dedicated test centre in which all tests are monitored rigorously. Apart from the internal testing facilities, the Reynaers Institute provides full support for testing at external test labs. Extensive advice and support, manufacturing of test elements, installation on location,… it’s all part of Reynaers’ expertise.
Internal safety testing
At the Reynaers institute, several tests are performed to measure the impact –and burglar resistance of a system. An impactor in the form of a double tire is used to measure the effect of soft and heavy body impact on the element. Our testing facilities are also fully equipped for static, dynamic, or manual burglar testing.
External safety testing
Tests on the impact of bullets on Reynaers profile systems are performed in notified test labs such as TNO and the Royal Military School. The resistance of systems against fire breakthrough, are tested in close cooperation with various accredited European labs such as WFR, IFT, Efectis Group and ITB. Tests on the smoke tightness, as well as the smoke leakage of the systems are performed in notified test labs such as ITB, IFT and MPA Braunschweig.
Fire protection
As aluminum is a non-flammable material and has a melting temperature of over 600 degrees it is an ideal material to create fire resistant solutions. These systems require dedicated solutions to meet the necessary requirements of the regulations to withstand 30 or 60 minutes of fire. These tests are performed in close cooperation with various accredited European labs such as WFR, IFT, Efectis Group and ITB.
Bullet protection
Some dedicated systems are designed to withstand bullet impact. These systems are closely linked to the banking sector, post offices and so on. Tests are performed in notified testlabs such as TNO and the Royal Military School.
Safety for children
A very important aspect of aluminium windows and doors is their level of safety and user-friendliness towards children. Reynaers takes this into account when designing its window –and door systems.
Impact resistance
All our systems are subjected to a severe impact test, in which a sandbag simulates the impact of a moving object (e.g. a running child) on an installed window. These tests are performed in our high-tech Reynaers Institute (link: Reynaers Institute). The high level of impact resistance of our systems ensures a safe solution for playing kids.
Other safety measures
Certain doors can be fitted with a special finger-protection application. This makes sure that a child or any other person does not get injured when their fingers get stuck between a closing door. What’s more, window –or door handles are equipped with an anti-error device. This device only allows the correct operation of the handles. This way, the unexpected opening of an element, resulting from incorrect operation, is avoided.
Burglar resistance
Windows and doors need to have a sufficient standard of security. Especially the back of your house, where most break-ins often occur. Without standard security, an alarm system is useless. But how can you properly secure your building from unwanted visitors? Aluminium windows and doors are well resistant to burglary because of the extreme stabilityand resistance to deformation of the base material.
Burglar-proof systems
Reynaers provides you with a choice of burglary and bullet resistance levels. Just as an example, we are able to produce our windows with several locks on multiple sides of the window. We also have safeguards that ensure that the position of the open windows can only be changed if they are closed first leaving thieves left out in the cold.
For additional security of aluminium windows and doors, there are various options. For example, special security fittings with several locking points and a deadbolt. In addition, the hardware is fitted with an anti-drill plate and an anti-lift device. This makes it almost impossible for thieves to drill the lock or break open the window using a crowbar. By replacing existing glass with safety glass and ordinary glazing beads by special ones, safety will always be increased. Your Reynaers professional has the right solution for your situation.
In order to determine the degree of protection against burglary, different resistance categories were created (in accordance with European norm ENV 1627-1630). This classification is based on perpetrator type, behaviour, area of application, risk and application recommendation.
